Class Preview

Here is a quick preview of two of our projects for our class on Friday, August 20th.  I will post the third and final project tomorrow after I complete the sample. 

The first card will be for our bird lovers.  It features the Aviary stamp set and is a design that I CASED.  The original design is by Heather Summers, which she demonstrated at convention.  I just loved the idea that I wanted to recreate the same thing.  I changed up a few of the colors and the punches, but essentially kept things the same.

The second card is for the cat lovers out there.  I used the C is for Cat stamp set and was inspired by several different cards on SplitCoast Stampers.  I used some of Tessa's favorite colors on this card.

Normally, I post all the details, but I just want to get a quick preview up for you at this time.  Later I'll post a follow up with a detailed list of ingredients and instructions.

There are still a few more spaces left for our class. Remember, instead of a workshop fee, I'm asking for donations for PAWs.  It can be as simple as a can of pet food for your workshop fee.

June Technique Class- New Products

Are you ready for some Summer Fun?  I am.  Our new Idea Book and Catalog will debut in July so we are going to use our June Technique Class to welcome in some new products.  We will be making a great card using the new In Colors, New Stamp Sets, and Papers.  It will be a fun night to preview new products offered by Stampin' Up!  The class will begin at 6:00 PM on Friday June 25, 2010.  There will be light refreshments.

The last chance list will be available.  All guests placing an order will be entered into a drawing for any hostess benefits earned on the workshop order.

A Preview of Our February Technique Class

For our February Technique Class, we will be making photo cubes using jewel cases for CDs, an idea from instructables.com.  For this project, you will need to bring at least 4 photos for your project.   The quantity of photos depends on the size.  If you want to use wallet size photos, you may want to consider bringing more than 4 photos.  You will also need to mount your photos to the cube during class and will not be able to add them later so don't forget your photos!

Our February class will be held on February 19, 2010 at 6:00 PM in my home.  To RSVP for this class or to be added to my invite list for the class, email me today.  These photo cubes make for perfect Mother's or Father's Day gifts.  You can also make one of these cubes for the teens/tweens in your life.  Use some of their favorite photos and then load the cube with fun gifts and then wrap like an Easter basket.  It works well as a gift for any occasion or time of the year.

As a sample, I've shown the cube I made as a gift for my husband at Christmas.   You'll see two vies of this cube.  It was made with Garden Green card stock and Bella Bleu Designer Series Paper.  I picked Garden Green because it coordinates well with our bedspread and I intended for him to use it to hold his cell phone and change on his night stand.  I used photos of the kids and a family hiking trip.  You can also see stamps from "Define Your Life" in the photo.  I also made cubes for my parents, my grandma, Tim's parents, my sister, a few friends at church, and Tim's grandma. 

A second example of the cube is one I made for a Sunday School teacher at our church who is battling cancer.  I'm posting this particular cube less to show off the cube and more to request your prayers.  Please take the time to remember Sally and her family in prayer.  They need prayers and encouragement right now.  For this cube, I had all the kids at Sunday School make handprint flowers.  These are to remind Sally of all the hands folded in prayer for her and her family.  I will be working on a similar project for her parents who also need encouragement right now.  Here is the finished project. Sally's cube uses retired papers (Baja Breeze) and I used the "What Cancer Cannot Do" and a design in My Digital Studio.  I exported it to a jpeg and printed it at the local drug store.  As I've said before, I love the versatility of this software.  It allows me to create embellishments and journal text with coordinating images. 

As we get closer to our class date, I will post the detailed instructions for this project.  It is a rather involved list of instructions which I will post with the sample which will be more representative of our project.  For the February technique class, we will use paper from the new Sweet Pea Designer Series Paper Pack available in the current Occasions Mini Catalog.

Valentine Sweet Treat Project Sneak Peek

One of our first technique workshops for 2010 will feature the Sweet Treat Cups. These are presently available in a 1 3/4 inch circle and beginning January 5, they will be available in a heart shape, just in time for Valentine's Day.

Here is my first card, our January 15th Technique Workshop will be a similar design. I'm focusing on designs with red and green M&Ms since I had some left from Christmas.

For this card, I used Real Red and Whisper White. I used the Love You Much stamp set. The key to making these cards is to make them such that you can get to the candy with tearing apart the entire card. For this card, you pull out the white card using the ribbon and pull the candy out the hole in the inside of the card. The trick is to create a "pocket" on the inside of the card (or the outside if you prefer) by layering at least two pieces of card stock, both with holes punched in them. If you choose to use only two pieces of paper, you will need to adhere your cup to the outside top layer so your "door" can be pulled in and out of the pocket. It is also a good idea to stamp an image that can be seen through your sweet treat cup after the candy has been devoured.

My next card is a thank you card using my green M&Ms. I'll include some photos showing some of the step by step details.

For this card, I had three layers: the top Rich Razzleberry square, the Certainly Celery Card, and a second Rich Razzleberry Square attached to the inside top of the card.

First I cut a circle out of both the Rich Razzleberry squares. You need your circle to be at least 1 3/4 inches.

Lay your top layer onto the front of your card, and mark the location for your third hole. You can punch it the same size as your other holes or slightly smaller. I decided to go slightly smaller to allow more room for my cup to attach to the front of the card.

I used Pick a Petal and Crushed Curry to create a flower around the hole cut for my cup. I also added a butterfly and sentiment from Flight of the Butterfly. I just folded the tips of the flowers around the hole to the back side of the Rich Razzleberry square. I then attached my cup to the front of the card and adhered the Rich Razzleberry to the card front. On the inside of the card, I attached the second piece of the Rich Razzleberry using sticky strip on 3 of the four sides. I left an opening on one side to allow me to slide in a Whisper White Piece of card stock.

On the Whisper White piece of card stock, I stamped a flower center so it would be seen through the cup when the candy is gone. I lined it up by layering the Rich Razzleberry over it and marking with a pencil. I punched a hole in one side and added a bit of Old Olive grosgrain ribbon. I then inserted it into the pocket.

Once complete, I filled with my M & Ms. Now it is all ready to give to a friend.

The Sweet Treat Cups are only $2.95 for each package and there are 12 cups per package. These cups are available in the current Holiday Mini and will be carried over into the upcoming Occasions Mini.
